After an exhaustive 2 years of preparation, London won the right
to stage the 2012 Olympics games. The IOC Committee President,
Jacques Rogge, made the dramatic announcement at 1249 BST on the
6th July 2005 at the Singaport meeting.

The plans were well presented to the Evaluation Commission. The
Olympic inspectors were taken through the under-construction Channel
Tunnel rail link in Range Rovers, which helped allay transport fears.
